So it's summer here in Oslo and (almost) all is well.
Concerts galore. Burn out city.
A trip to Paris very soon and deafening music all summer long.

One very sad note from Oslo. Spasibar, hands down the best music venue in Oslo is closing their doors. Where the hell will bands like Vialka, Gay Against You, Dj Scotch Egg, and Crash Normal play next time they are in Oslo? I was lucky enough to dj there too (takk!)...always a blast. No one took a chance on the bands Spasibar did over the last 3.5 years. It was totally unique. Not only with its Russian theme bar, but also with its clientel, bands and employees. A big hole will be left in the music scene here. Hopefully something new will come out of it. There is a desperate need. Spasibar closes its doors on June 30th. There will be a big blowout party though...

Soft Bondage at Mono

Yep, its about that time again. Thursday 29th of May Soft Bondage will be spinning some rock and/or roll at Cafe Mono. This time its myself and Per Gisle. Per Gisle happends to (among other things) play in Ranheim. Ranheim just got back from recording their new record with Steve Albini of Shellac fame. Check out Ranheim here.
Ranheim will aslo be releasing have a 7 inch release party on june 28th at Spasibar here in Oslo. Good times.

Other than that....Nick Cave was great. Health was one of this years best shows. Health will also play at the Øya Festival in August. Årabrot also played at the opening of Revolvers new club in the basement.

Guess what? I suck at updating this thing with any fun info.

Ok, so I've been sort of M.I.A again...

DJ Scotch Egg

I was lucky enough to dj a bit before his gig (his plane was delayed) He's got a really good varied taste in music I found out. He's even got a soft spot for Norwegian noise bands. (Anders Hana from Noxagt plays on his Drumized record on Load Records)


Japanese New Music Festival

Yoshida Tatsuya (Ruins Alone) and Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mother Temple) did 4 sets of noise, punk, and everything in between.
Toothbrushes, a camera, and a giant chinese carrot were some of the things used to make noise. This great night was put on by the good people at Dans For Voksne.

Blonde Redhead
Also Blonde Redhead played a nice set at Rockefeller.
That was this week.

Just got back from Paris. Hung out with some friends and bought French punk and new wave. What an amazing town.
I am currently obsessed with BIPPP French Synth-wave 1979-1985.

Polyrock: My favorite video (this week)

Oh, this is an oldy but a goodie.
Did you ever hear of Polyrock? No? Me neither until I read about this band somewhere, some time ago in a galaxy far far....anyway, Polyrock was a New York new wave band produced by Phillip Glass. They put out 2.5 records and dissapeared. All you ever want to know or hear by Polyrock you can find here. If you're not a total souless jerk, you can buy it from Wounded Bird Records.

This week is the By:Larm festival here in Oslo.
Lots of bands and junk. Kinda like the SXSW of Norway, only a hell of alot further north and crappier. Some recommended artist this year are Shining, Next Life, and Jason Forrest. Should be a good time.

USA! USA! USA!

It was cold and rainy in Seattle. Spent most of my time indoors with family or at the pubs anyhow. On the music front I saw some great local music at the Rendevous. Kazutaka Nomura played som quirky tracks, followed by Flexions (which is a prosject with members of Shoplifting and The Blood Brothers) - or if was Teflon Don (I'm not sure really). Either way, both guys were on stage. Followed by some jazzy beats by E.R. Don. These are the kinds of shows I miss while living in Oslo. There are great shows here too, but never more then 1 or 2 acts on the bill.

I also saw the old Ethiopian singer Mahmoud Ahmed. People danced and sang every word. It didn't excite me that much, but it was good....I was starting to get sick.

The rest of the shows I had to cancel, including seeing The Intelligence, because I got a ill. I also missed seeing some friends because of it. I have 3 weeks of vacation, and I spent the last 10 days in bed with a fever....nice.
The legendary Crocodile cafe has also closed. The city looks like its in a depression...closed places everywhere. I miss the Crocodile whiskey sours.

So it's been along time since a real post here at cma... Well, truthfully I haven't felt like it, and I've been really busy and burned out. Tons of shows I haven't written about here (listed on the right) and a bunch of other stuff going on as well. I'm ready for a vacation. Speaking of vacation, I'm heading for my old hometown of Seattle in a couple of days. I will visit some family and friends as well as partake in a few rock and or roll shows. The Intelligence is playing somewhere as well as Mahmoud Ahmed who is an old Ethiopian singer will rock the Showbox on the 29th. I will also be doing alot of record shopping (you know, actually buying records and cd's and not just leaching off the internet...old fashioned I know...) So merry christmas, happy kwanzaa, hannaka, boxing day, anti-corporate day, drunk day, or monday or whatever you might be celebrating. I will be back and better than ever next year. (no, really I will)
I fucking hate 90% of the christmas music (and don't get me started on the other traditions) so I will leave you with the greatest xmas song EVER:

Musical marathon week

Aaah, I can already smell it...it's the weekend!
And this weekend is special. Happy to have two crazy guys from Paris for a visit. Crash Normal play at Spasibar on friday night with Firefly Effect and others. This show is sponsored by none other than Redyellowcab.....did I mention they rule? Well now I did.
Maybe another show saturday...
Sunday, Arcade Fire are back in town. Saw them at Garage a few years back and yes they might be over hyped, but they are still a great live band.
The week continues Tuesday with Music For A While (a great Kurt Weill cover band), and wednesday Liars play at John Dee. If I have any energy left by then, there are several more shows later in the week.

I ended up missing the Slaraffenland show because I got a free ticket to the biggest nerd fest in town: Play! A Video Game Symphony . They played a couple of old favorites and alot of stuff I could care less about. Fun to see weirdos in capes and masks though. KORK (The Norwegian Radio Symphony), plus a choir and some guest made it watchable.
Next weekend is the start of a concert marathon...can't wait!

Bush League

Toronto's Bush League are either ex or current members of Teen Crud Combo, The Killer Elite, Pecola, Picastro, Ugly Stick, No No Zero, and No Dynamics. Not much info on them as they seem to refuse to use the web.
They have released a 10'' record on a french label: http://yakisakana.free.fr/ It's LOUD and LOFI.
Don't know alot about them, but they do include members of Pecola...so that's all you really need to know.
